Building and Grounds

A Growing School

Bowmandale Primary School is one of three primary schools situated in the town of Barton-upon-Humber in the county of North Lincolnshire. We are a Community Primary School catering for 4 to 11 year olds.

Since opening in 1978, Bowmandale has been expanded on several occasions to cope with an increasing school population. Currently, we have over 340 pupils enrolled.

In 2013 Bowmandale Primary School underwent a £1m development to create a new school hall, an extension to the indoor and outdoor Foundation Stage facilities, create new office space and convert the original hall into a classroom. The hall opened officially in January 2014.

The School Building

Bowmandale has 13 classrooms conveniently grouped into Key Stage areas and shared teaching areas which are used for group work. Each classroom is furnished with both a carpeted and a hard floored area with washing facilities and is equipped with an interactive touch screen and Wi-Fi. There is a dedicated room from which our learning mentor works to support children on a 1:1 and small group basis.

The multipurpose hall is used for whole school events, assemblies, lunch, sport and drama. It is equipped with a public address system with hearing loop, stage lighting and a large projector and screen. Gymnastic apparatus can be opened out for use as required.

A spacious reception area, offices, staff room, meeting rooms, cloak rooms, accessible toilet facilities, medical changing facility and a kitchen complete the school.

The School Grounds

Bowmandale school is set in over 5 acres of attractive grounds. There is a large playing field and playground at the rear of the building which include an adventure playground, a triangular field which can be used when additional space is required during the summer, and an extensive landscaped area at the front of the school.

At the front of the school is a specialist outdoor area for the Foundation Stage. This includes a covered area, adventure playground and a roundabout designed for riding bikes and scooters.

Outdoor Adventure Learning

Bowmandale's Outdoor Learning area is designed to enhance and complement the day to day curriculum of the whole school. Led by class teachers and our Learning Mentor, it offers all our children opportunities to develop confidence and self-esteem and to experience achievement.

Outdoor Adventure Learning aims to produce confident and capable children who:

  • Feel happy and contented and care for each other
  • Develop practical skills and get better at using them
  • Understand, care for and appreciate the natural environment
  • Know when it is safe to take risks
  • Can make choices and think deeply
  • Have good ideas and love finding out new things
  • Are improving their language skills all the time
  • Enjoy doing lots of outdoor physical activity
  • Become independent and resourceful

Technology

It is essential for pupils to feel confident using technology as they progress through their school lives and beyond. It enriches our curriculum and makes learning more rewarding and inspiring. Pupils have access to Chromebooks and iPads, which are used routinely throughout the day, and all classrooms are equipped with interactive touch screens for teaching. Our Wi-Fi network covers the entire school, allowing us to make the most of mobile technology.

All pupils have an account on the school's network which allows secure access to their work and shared resources. Year 5 and Year 6 children all have a personal Chromebook allowing them to use digital technology to support their learning as needed throughout the day. Internet access is always supervised and inappropriate content is filtered for all users.
